Condition

'Condition'A Synchronicity Films production. Created by Amir Naderi. Directed, compiled by Andrei Severny. With: Jessica Kaye, Antonella Lentini, Steve Mosher.Part video installation, part serious science tract, novice helmer Andrei Severny's "Condition" has moments of great interest but appears uncertain what type of film it really wants to be. Happening following an unspecified national emergency that may be a terrorist attack, the pic follows a seem counselor and her traumatized charge because they avoid Gotham in to the Maine hinterland. Severny is intrigued through the science of seem and it is uses in dealing with Post traumatic stress disorder but this fascination hampers his capability to create a tight feature. Producer and co-editor Amir Naderi's title should help "Condition" get reservations at indie-centric fests. "Seem in my experience is much like touch far away,Inch states seem investigator Mary Taggert (Jessica Kaye), traveling north together with her patient Alaska (Antonella Lentini). Carrying out a disaster, possibly in NY (the threat of 9/11, though not specified, isn't far), practitioners were expected to have a patient and drive to safety, but empty gasoline stations have forced Taggert to prevent along a barren stretch of Maine shoreline. Alaska, mute, is coping not basically using the current emergency however with some thing personally harrowing in her own past. Severny withholds particulars so as, one suspects, to universalize the trauma, yet you can't really escape the sensation that he's using 9/11 because the benchmark, strengthened by shots of the generic skyscraper using the camera racing up its side. A montage of images featuring cars, flames and sirens, superimposed onto Alaska's face, plays from the helmer's desire to have subtlety, though you can picture this along with other sequences forecasted on the gallery wall. Similarly, moments of Alaska laying lower inside a whitened laboratory, hearing various sounds performed for his or her therapeutic value, might be fascinating inside a museum space having a superb stereo system system, but here the sequences simply don't feel including. Severny is really a proselytizer for that psychology of seem (the development notes are filled with solemn discussions from the science behind the pic's concept), the theme must be more strongly wedded to some solid story or divorced from narrative altogether. Alaska's initial obsessive reworking of the rope with knots is rapidly dropped, simply to come back in the finish, and her very title is unfortunate, prone to induce titters when Taggert shouts "Alaska!" over the Maine backwoods. Generally soft-edged pictures are extremely conned of tonalities regarding appear almost monochrome, further pushing the feeling of a "serious work" dealing with a "serious subject."Camera (color, widescreen, HD), Severny editors, Amir Naderi, Severny production designer, Doug Fitch seem, Richard Garet connect producers, Dar Meshi, Irene Del Campo assistant director, Chris Federico.
